The History of the
National Board of Trustees
The National Board of Trustees got its origin in 1968 after the Church Of God In Christ held its First Constitutional Convention. During this convention, the structure of the church changed from governance to an organizational structure. While Bishop C.H. Mason was in leadership he operated with an Executive Board and A.B. McQuin was considered Bishop Mason’s Trustee. Upon the death of Bishop Mason, the Board of Directors operated the church from 1962 to 1967 and was headed by Bishop C.H. Brewer, Sr. who was responsible for the church’s governance. When the structure changed in 1968 the Church abolished several references. It no longer used the term Senior Bishop, instead it introduced the term Presiding Bishop. Its leadership’s title changed from Executive Board to the General Board. And the Board of Directors became the Trustee Board.
The Trustee Board has had four Chairpersons
1. Bishop Roger Jones (1968 – 1995)
2. Bishop Dwight Green (1995 - 2000)
3. Bishop Charles Ford (2000 - 2012)
